Origins and Ownership
Qantas Airways Limited, is the flag carrier airline of Australia, and Australia’s largest airline by fleet size, international flights and international destinations. Having been founded in 1920, Qantas Airways Limited is the third-oldest airline in the world; it began its international flights in 1935. The Qantas name comes from “QANTAS” an acronym from its original name: Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services.
The airline is based in the Sydney suburb of Mascot, with its main hub at Sydney Airport. As of 2014, Qantas had a sixty-five percent share of Australian domestic market and carried fifteen percent of passengers travelling in and out of Australia. Various subsidiary airlines operate to regional centres and on some trunk rules within Australia under Qantaslink banner. Its subsidiary Jetconnect provides services between Australia and new Zealand, flying under the Qantas brand. Qantas also owns the low-cost airline: Jetstar Airways, that operates both international services from Australia and domestic services within Australia and New Zealand; and holds the stakes in the number of Jetstar-branded airlines.
Alan Joseph Joyce, is an Irish-born Australian Businessman. Born on the 30th of June in 1966, He is the Chief Executive Officer of Qantas Airways Limited since October 2003.

“Best airlines ever!! Flew to NZ/Australia last August and was dreading the 16+ hour flight. However, Qantas made time fly by with its personal video/entertainment screen available on every seat. It offers hundreds of movies (even movies not on dvd yet), tv shows, news, sports, etc. I didn’t even have to use my laptop or phone as entertainment. Also, the service and overall quality of Qantas made the flight comfortable and stress free. I have yet to experience anything that compares to this airline.
