Hamad International Airport, formerly known as New Doha International Airport, is the international airport of Doha, Qatar replacing the former Doha International Airport as Qatar’s principle airport.
Planning started in 2003 and the construction of the airport began in 2005. It was built 3.1 miles east of the older Doha International Airport, spread over an area of 5,500 acres and was set to initially serve airlines that will not utilize lounge access. The airport was originally scheduled to open in 2009 but was not opened until April 30, 2014 due to a series of costly delays. Passengers who require special assistance are advised to inform the airport of the kind of assistance they require and to bring necessary documents the passenger might need.
A variety of shopping establishments are available in the airport, so you can do a last minute shopping to buy gifts for your loved ones or to get a souvenir for yourself. Qatar Duty Free, Blush cosmetics, Esquire (for men), Victoria’s Secret, Harrods, WHSmith, Samsung and several other brands are situated in the airport.
Jamocha cafe, Eat Street. Le Grand Comptoir, Negroni, Qataf Cafe and Farggi are some the many dining establishments you can visit at the airport in case you feel the need to eat something before your flight or once you’ve landed.
HIA is strictly a non-smoking facility. To maintain a smoke-free environment for our passengers and staff and for the convenience of the passengers, designated smoking rooms are spread throughout the passenger terminal. To locate the nearest smoking room, passengers may approach an information desk or simply follow the signs.
Multiple ATMs, several of which dispense cash in multiple currencies, are located in the passenger terminal. These can be accessed in at the prior and post immigration, departures and arrivals level and before or after the customs check point. Foreign Exchange kiosks that which offer currency conversion and money transfer services are also available across the passenger terminal.
Prayer rooms are also located throughout the passenger terminals. There are separate rooms for men and women which include dedicated ablution facilities.
Using your smartphone, tablet or laptop computer, just search for “HIAQatar Complimentary WiFi” and sign in to enjoy complimentary wireless internet access at the passenger terminal so you can stay connected with your friends and loved ones who are miles away. Complimentary Internet Kiosks and desks equipped with screens and keyboards offer you free web browsing.
There are plenty of Waiting areas and free phone charging areas that are easy to locate. Restrooms are spacious, clean and well-maintained. Moving walkways or travelator are also provided to help the passengers go from one gate to another. Otherwise it will be a very long walk.

HIA is owned by Qatar Civil Aviation Authority. It is operated by Qatar Airways and serves as the airlines’ hub. The airport served 32,168,817 passengers and handled 1,454,952 tonnes of cargo. There were 236,758 aircraft movements.
